Sodium Phytate

INCI: Sodium Phytate

What It Is

Sodium phytate is the sodium salt of phytic acid, a naturally occurring compound found in rice bran and other plant seeds. In skincare, it acts as a chelating agent, binding to metal ions that could otherwise destabilize a formula or degrade active ingredients.

Why We Use It

We use sodium phytate to enhance the stability and shelf life of our water-based formulations. It supports the effectiveness of preservatives and antioxidants by neutralizing trace metals that can accelerate oxidation or microbial growth.

Origin & How It’s Made

Sodium phytate is sourced from plant materials such as rice bran or corn. It is produced by extracting phytic acid from these sources, then neutralizing it with a natural mineral salt to create a stable, water-soluble ingredient suitable for cosmetic use.
